The Latest at Lifeworks – June 2023

Lifeworks Community,

One of the many things I have enjoyed about my time at Lifeworks so far is getting to know our community. From clients and parents to donors and employers, the Lifeworks community is diverse and yet has one thing in common – their unwavering support and belief in our mission to partner with people with disabilities.

Last month, I had the opportunity to gather with a women’s group whose passion for the Lifeworks mission spans decades. We discussed gaps in disability services, where more support is needed, and their ideas to continue innovating our work at Lifeworks. It was a pleasure to bring this group of dedicated supporters together and I look forward to continuing the conversation with them.

The Women’s Group includes parents, donors, board members, and community supporters of Lifeworks.

At Lifeworks, we are always finding new ways to connect with our community. This year, we have started advertising in two culturally specific publications: the Sahan Journal and Mshale. If you are a reader of these publications – be on the lookout for our advertisements throughout the year!

I am excited to see that the Lifeworks team is out in the community weekly at career fairs, events, and conferences. Just in the last month, Lifeworks has attended the Ramsey County Transition Fair, presented at the Proof Alliance Caregiver Conference, tabled at the Residents of Color Collective Juneteenth Celebration, and next up we will be at the Central Minnesota Autism Resource Fair in Elk River. All these events help Lifeworks fulfill our vision and mission by bringing the greater community into our work.

Thank you for being a part of the Lifeworks community! If you are interested in deepening your partnership with Lifeworks – by employing people with disabilities, volunteering, or donating – please do not hesitate to reach out to me at contact@lifeworks.org.

Warmly,

Gertrude Matemba-Mutasa
