Required by the federal government through the 21st Century Cures Act, Public Law 114-255, EVV mandates that Personal Care Services are electronically tracked. EVV will impact Lifeworks Fiscal and In-Home Services, specifically regarding the systems used to record support provided by Direct Support Professionals and Personal Care Assistants.
To implement EVV, Minnesota DHS has chosen to move forward with a hybrid model where providers like Lifeworks can either use a state-funded vendor or an alternative system that meets state requirements.
Due to unavoidable delays, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services approved Minnesota’s good faith effort exception request through 2020, allowing additional time for the state to review vendors and comply with EVV requirements. As of January 2021, Minnesota will be required to implement the EVV requirements or be subject to financial penalties.
